Seeing beneath the skin is a fine science at HCM. We have implemented diverse equipment and comprehensive systems because it’s important to clearly see a possible problem early, see it well to treat it, and fast-track further examinations if something concerning is revealed.
MRI, CT, MRA scans
Our technologists will work with you in a compassionate manner, and they are trained to see subtle nuances in images and call them to the attention of one of our radiology doctors while you are still here. If we need to re-scan and/or reposition you to capture the most useful image, we will. This practice speeds your treatment, adds convenience to your schedule, and reduces potential stress because you do not have to return to receive another scan.
Speed is of the Essence
In 2010, an additional ultrasound machine was made possible at HCM—a gift through the HCMH Foundation from Ed and Trudy Brune—to serve patients in the HCM Breast Center, which is in a separate building from the main hospital. The presence of the additional ultrasound machine is a monumental help to patients who have had a suspicious spot detected through a mammogram, because they can immediately have an ultrasound performed for further clarification of a potential threat. Prior to 2010, the patient would have to schedule an ultrasound in the hospital imaging department. Today, the speed with which ultrasound clarification is provided gives faster data to physicians treating the patient, and it provides answers to a human being whose well-being hangs in the balance.
Radiation is one of the means used in imaging practices. At HCM, we only utilize state-of-the-art machines that have been engineered for maximized safety. Furthermore, our equipment is meticulously maintained and expected to ensure safety. If a machine cannot pass inspection, it is replaced.
Since radiation accumulates throughout a person's lifetime, HCM has developed a partnership with PRMC in Kerrville, Texas to share PACS files to ensure that a patient's image is not duplicated unnecessarily. We are committed to upholding "The Five Rights of Imaging Safety":
- Right Study
- Right Order
- Right Way
- Right Report
- Right Action
Scheduling - MD Procedure Reference
We maintain less than a three-day lead time on scheduled exams which means there is hardly a time that we cannot work in a patient for an exam within one or two days and, more than likely, within hours of the doctor requesting a procedure.
You need a physician’s referral to schedule a scan, but if you have any questions about HCM imaging, please call the HCM director of imaging, Dustin Embrey, RT, MR, at (830) 990-6192.
