Restore: Hill Country Memorial's Remarkable Joint Program

Restore is an HCM Destination Center of Superior Performance, in which the outcome of patient cases far exceeds the national average:

98% of patients experience mild to no pain when walking vs. the national average of 82%

  • 99% mild to no difficulty with stairs vs. the national average of 79%
  • Average number of days in the hospital is 2.5 vs. traditional joint replacement of 3.7 days
  • 91% of patients go directly home instead of to a rehab facility or nursing home

Restore is designed to reshape lives through a safe, proven, evidence-based joint replacement program that fosters faster recovery with mild or no pain for 98 percent of its patients.  Four Fredericksburg orthopedic surgeons are performing Restore procedures at HCM. The program includes specialized pain management and group therapy elements that are making important differences in the lives of their patients.

Anesthesia advances mean less post-surgical pain and faster mobility for knee and hip patients. And the faster those patients get moving, the quicker—and better—they recover, often leaving the hospital up to two days earlier than traditional joint replacement programs.  Rehabilitation is a second key component that sets the HCM Restore program apart. It’s an environment of encouragement and motivation created by personal coaches, peer support, volunteers and physician therapy guidance.
