Important News from the HCMH Radiology Department

We will be upgrading the PACS the weekend of November 2nd.  Beginning on Friday November 2nd at 5:00 PM the PACS will be unavailable over the Internet or in the hospital until Late Sunday evening.

When attempting to access the HCMH PACS on Monday, November 5th there will be some changes.  The following are some items that must be changed:

After November 5th you may not use any browser other than Internet Explorer 6 to view the PACS.  Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 will not function.  This is a Kodak limitation that we are unable to circumvent.  To determine which version of Internet Explorer that you have do the following:

Verifying your version of Internet Explorer:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click the Help menu and select “About Internet Explorer”.  You should see the following:

The important field is here:

If this does not say “Version: 6.0” then please contact the person who manages the computers in your office and ask them to install Internet Explorer 6.

You must enter the new address for the PACS.  Many of the bookmarks that were set up when the PACS was initially installed were set to a sequence of numbers.  This is going to change in the future and all users need to update their bookmarks and shortcuts.  The new address is http://pacs.hcmhs.org

After October 27 the opening screen will be different.  Here is what the new screen will look like:

To access images on the PACS you must click CARESTREAM Client:

When you do that the first time you will see the yellow bar at the top of the screen indicating that the site has been blocked from installing software:

Click on that bar and select “Download File…” from the menu that is then displayed.

Click “Save” on the window that next comes up:

Select a location that you can easily find to save the new PACS software.  Your desktop is a good choice as it will make the installation program easily locatable.

A file will then download to your computer.  The file is large and could take several minutes to download.

Close Internet Explorer and double click the MasterView.EXE icon that is now on your desktop (or other location that you chose to save it).  You will only have to do this once.

Depending on your system configuration the following window may or may not be displayed:

If the window appears, click “Run”.

There will be several windows that will be displayed but none should require any action on your part.  If there are any warnings displayed by your firewall software click “Accept” or “Grant”.

Re-open Internet Explorer and go to http://pacs.hcmhs.org.  Click on “CARESTREAM Client”:

Depending on how powerful your system is there could be a delay of up to 20 seconds before the PACS software launches.  When it is ready for you to log in you will see the following:

The user name and password will be the same PACS user name and password that you have always used to access the PACS at HCMH.

You may now delete the file that you saved to your desktop without any negative effects.
